Shocker character design development revisit, with an in depth look at my process
Final sketch from previous post
A full body exploration sketch developed whilst working on the previous post.
I decided to revisit the character as I wasn't happy with the look, I thought I could do better.
I became more interested in exaggerating the body shape.
This was the turning point, as the sketches became increasingly characterised which I dug, a lot.
tried to sketch out a quick character sheet to get more of an overall feel for the character.
Following from the previous pencil sketches I explored different styles and approaches.
I decided to go with the sketchy, rough style. This sketch I really like as its so minimal but I think it conveys a lot of information and is quickly identifiable as SHOCKER.
Adding in the details....
An experiment varying the head.
Adding in cables. I wanted to make the character silhouette more interesting.
Flipping the sketch to see how it works/looks.
It was a tough choice, I think the design could be refined more, especially the head. Design works without the cables as well I think.
Sans cables, like this .
Worked a bit more on the head shape, like the blocky, flat top.
Flipped and scaled down head
...getting there....
Final. Expression in eyes is more villainous and simpler. Really happy with the character design now.
